MOCA hosts UCLA scholar Dr. Katherine Smith in conversation with Potoprens artist Myrlande Constant, a leading artist in the new style of large, densely beaded Vodou flags. The conversation will be archived in the Digital Library of the Caribbean at Florida International University, in partnership with the FIU LACC.

Dr. Katherine Smith received her PhD in Culture and Performance in 2012. Through extensive ethnographic research, Katherine examines historical transformations of the trickster spirit Gede in the visual and embodied culture of Vodou. Myrlande Constant is a Haitian master sequin artist noted for her labor intensive and densely rich works imbued with historic references and magic. MEET DOROTHEA GREEN

The Arsht Center welcomed a new family name to its campus in April with the naming of the Dorothea Green Theater inside the Ziff Ballet Opera House. The newly-named space recognizes a generous $2.5 million grant from the Green Family Foundation to increase access to arts education for Miami-Dade County children.

"We added a family name to our campus!

The naming recognizes a significant gift from The Green Family Foundation that will empower the Arsht Center to annually expand its arts education access for another 25,000 children – reaching a total of 80,000 students every year with free arts learning experiences."
